father lord...save me..
It's Carnival!!!!
The Argument exists that we are all products of our environment. I believe it has an effect on us yes, but I don't think it completely defines who we are. A person is Much More than its Environment.
However a lot can be said about the people we surround ourselves with. Make sure the people you keep around have the same goals you do. I'm not saying go to the extremes of cutting and dicing your associations cause they don't match yours, but make sure the people you keep around you:
Share Your Energy level..
Your Ambitions,
Your Ethics...
Your Work Ethic,
Have the Ability to make Hard decisions in a Crunch..
Have the same resolve you do..
Accept Your Differences,
Know your Flaws But LOVE you Anyway...
CAN SINCERELY and EASILY Apologize when they Hurt you ...
and RESPECT your EFFORT and TIME and TALENTS...not EXPLOIT IT!!
Like a Radio Host said last Night...I SWEAR she was talking STRAIGHT AT Me...she might as well have called my Name out..
If your crew is Dizzy...and they not acting Right ....They need to get LEFT!!!"
Simple HUH? I added my own:
If you have to change your friends name to Croissant ...cause they so damn FLAKY...Let Them Go..
If you shake your head when you see the number show up on your Caller ID ..Delete it..
And surround yourself with energy that:
Moves you...
Inspires you to Grow and Learn and TRY!!
Energy that will EBB when your's is WANING..
A BRACE when yours is FALTERING..
A COVER when yours has FAILED YOU..
and a HALO when JOY Finds YOU!!
Don't Hold on to DOO DOO ...just makes you DIRTY AND STINKY TOOO

Okay so the Parade starts at NOON!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!
okay okay lets start over...
The Parade is SUPPOSED to start At noon.
Based on my experiences wtih this route this is my advice.
Do not park your car at the beginning of the route.
Right then your hype and full of energy so you good. Imagine after you jumping, and drinking and eating...and the adrenaline wear off...you now have to walk ALLLLLL the way back ...the ENTIRE ROUTE!! AGAIN...with your mash up gym boots and sore feet....[well unless you take a taxi] but you know what I mean.
Find the Sunblock..Miami Sun not easy...i buy the highest SPF I can and every year i turn into Chocolate Clivia right after...sigh..sun block
Sunglasses necessary..i know to find a place to put them sometimes is a drag ...but you will need them. Plus if you intend to run back and jump up with Natural Freaks some times all you pretty makeup does wash off...or if like some people you get kidnapped and put in a shopping basket and wheeled away unwillingly you sometimes return to your mas band covered in blue or brown mud...sunglasses make everything better.
Minimal supplies ...jus like Trinidad....Cash..you probably wont need it except for a Taxi back to your car...or..lol..sometimes if you park like a jackass and you get towed...hahaha....lip gloss, Tampon, wet wipe.
If the people give you a band...WEAR the blasted band...and don't give the band away to your cousin who not playing mas but you want them to get into the park. If you in costume...and you don't have on the MCI band....they don't care bout the MAS BAND band...your pretty costumed ass will be left outside the park. I HAVE SEEN IT!!! it's not pretty.
Closed Toe shoes. Nuff Said. If not...they fair game...simple
TRY TRY to reach for noon. *Straight face*. After the fete the night before...jus...doh sleep...cause even if you there by 1..and they ain't move off...the whole point is building your vibes...so TRY to reach for noon.
Don't cuss up the people that work in the drinks trunk. They busy. Is plenty people. PLUS we tipsy in hot sun...so just wait your turn or take two at a time. Please remember as in everything else ...pace yourself.
YES they have porto potties. NOOO this is not Trinidad so don't try to go round a corner and pee. Thats why the clean up bill does be so high for the carnivals. SO save the pee and protect your carnival venue!!!
Watch out for them Nasty Camera Men. The year of elation two weeks later we saw footage of some of our masqueraders who OBVIOUSLY were not aware that they were being Photographed LIKE THAT!! Some NASTY men go out there and only shoot for a CERTAIN THING! The reputable ones will be branded with who they are and where theyre From. So careful
Lastly....enjoy it...enjoy it...enjoy it...and then get ready for Las Lap the next Day

What's not to LOVE in that??? Anywhoo..
DISCLAIMER!! These are MY Choices. Remember there are PLENTY of ALTERNATE options for these fetes!! In fact if you want Post what you think your move gonna be that Night...and if we pass in the street give a sister a Hail UP!!
Outside of this being a TRIBE endorsed party, Island Elite puts on one of THE BEST SOCA PARTIES IN MIAMI!! VIbes Nice, Pretty People, style for days, and always little extras to put it over the top.
Of course Remember too that they are participating in the Miami carnival as Island Elite Mas and if it weren't for their last minute switch to Miami From Broward...we were ALMOST SALOON GIRLS this year!!
But all is fair in Love and MAS.
Moving Along:
Black And White
People Tickets for this now are at 30.00.
As of SATURDAY they go up to 40.00.
If alyuh want let me know and we will make money arrangements. If not..who Vex lost.
I think this party is where everybody gonna bounce up everybody.
I have friends from college in Tobago, old Flava Girl masqueraders, Online Carnival stalkers that I never met in Person...EVERYBODY linking up at Black and white. They should call this the Miami Carnival Meet and Greet!!
Stay Tuned for More Confirmations
But I still hadda plan out the outfits so after I stumble into the house in the morning and hadda get ready for the next thing I aint wasting time trying to figure out what to wear.
On top of this I am on my carnival regimen...hahah...to at least TONE up to fit into my Peacock costume..which is a SKINNY waist band WITH a V...so you know the little lower belly bulge that women always trying to get rid of gonna be displayed...sigh..Don't blame me..blame the designer..hahahahah!! I digress.
SOOO in preparation for the carnival I ordered the Bender ball...a little green ball that looks like a child's beach ball that comes with a DVD of exercises.
After taking two weeks to get here...EACH day I checking the blinking mail box for the thing...it finally arrives.
In the box is the ball deflated with two straws and a plug for the hole in the top. So I'm thinking... Dais all?
Anyways I set up the schedule....if I wake up an hour earlier ,I could do my ball have a cup a coffee , get ready for work..and then do another half hour in the afternoon.
So finally I put in the dvd...apparently there are two sets of directions on the dvd. One for abs, one for buns.
Leslie, the instructor starts off by giving instructions on how to blow up the ball.. DUHHH
I do that check.. and then they start with the tape.
Beginner's move. The premise is this ball sits at the base of your spine ..so that while youre doing your ab workout, your stomach muscles are constantly engaged. Makes sense..
Beginner's exrcise...EASY PEASY...im like ok...i could do this...cool..
Mind you its boring music..and she does NOT have iron clad abs hmm?? And its not a set workout so you can put in the tape do your sets and done.
But so far so good.
Then I got to the 2nd level...where you lean your back further back so you a have a more intense angle to work the abs more.
FATHERLORD!! Your girl was shaking like Vibrate on your cellphone.
I'm sure my neighbour thought something was wrong. By the third one where your working the obliques i was ACTIVELY SCREAMING!!
Lord pressure. The third level had me sweating...and SCREAMING...when I finished I was curled up in a ball like baby. But this crap works!! I could touch the muscles and feel the taughtness.
I've advanced now to setting up a thirty minute "BOY" playlist... so while "You" and "Miss Good Reputation" going...I do the exercises in the order I learned them.
So far so good. very worth the 20.00!! And people are noticing the results ..all the better
Try it!!
But you have to eat right???
here are some places I wanna recommend out side the typical Fast food fare:
- Kidd's Island Bakery
6305 Miramar Parkway Miramar, FL 33023-3943 (954) 963-6911
- Lc's Roti Shop
19505 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33169 (305) 651-8924
NAILS, EYEBROWS AND INDIVIDUAL EYE TABBING??
Everybody wants the super deluxe lashes for Carnival. But if you don't have time to do it at home, they are at every corner in Florida. Feel safe to walk in and have them do a great job. I'm recommending this one because i use her religiously.

But the Broward Caribbean Carnival, which attracts thousands of visitors and artists from as far as New York and the Caribbean, is homeless a month before the event.
On Thursday, a day after Miramar city commissioners voted against hosting it at a local park, supporters started an international e-mail campaign to demand that city and Broward County officials help find a venue for the event, which draws more than
15,000.
"The Caribbean community is coming together and seeing this as an affront not just to this event, but the community in general," said Tanya Ragbeer, immediate past president of the Greater Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce. "This carnival has been knocked around for too long now, and it needs a home. Unless we have the support of these commissioners, that will never take place."
On Wednesday, Miramar commissioners voted 3-2 against hosting the event, citing the size of the crowd, parking, litter and problems at former sites as insurmountable. Commissioners Winston Barnes and Fitzroy Salesman, the two Caribbean commissioners on the board, voted in favor of holding the event at Miramar Regional Park on Oct. 7.
"I am concerned that this event has a track record where no one has allowed them to come back," Miramar Mayor Lori Moseley said. "When I approved that park, I didn't approve it for events of over 10,000 people."
Salesman said if organizers address the city's concerns, the event could be successful. He urged his fellow commissioners to remember that more than 25 percent of Miramar's population is from the Caribbean.
"There's been no fighting, no shooting, no deaths," Salesman said of the Carnival's track record. "What is it that we're afraid of?"
The controversy surrounding the event is the latest episode in the carnival's short,
tumultuous history in Broward County and highlights a growing problem in South
Florida, where Caribbean festivals are proliferating and cities willing to accommodate them are becoming scarce.
Wexler said she received several complaints about last year's event, held in her district.
"The attendance was far higher than what was planned for. There was not enough
portable toilets and a number of complaints were about people using the woods as
toilets," Wexler said. "People also complained that there were not enough
police."
To control the crowd this year, organizers initially agreed to pre-sell tickets and have no on-site sales. Organizers also agreed to pay the city a fee of $70,000 for 50 police officers, fire rescue permits, clean up and other costs. Organizers had hired their own help for some of those services in the past.
But some city commissioners said they were not convinced the group could keep the crowd to 15,000. They also said the carnival lacked detailed plans on where festival patrons would park.
When asked whether the county could help secure a site for the popular event, Wexler said, "I don't have a problem having the conversation. But right now we don't have a lot of extra money. We had to cut $95 million and are looking at increasing the cost of entry to parks. This is not the year to say we could be a partner."
As Miramar resident Ruby Allison Limere added last minute touches to carnival
costumes on Thursday, she wondered if Miramar officials didn't want the carnival
because of who attends.
"I think there's a prejudice," said the Trinidad native who heads the Major Players Band. "To wait days before and then tell us we can't have carnival there is unethical."
Miramar officials say race never entered their minds.
"This is not a decision based on race or culture," Miramar Commissioner Troy Samuels said. "This is a decision based on the inability of the carnival organizers to manage the operational portion of the event."
Andy Ansola, president of the Broward Carnival Inc., said the event would go on. But he wouldn't provide details.
"There are lots of people out there who don't want the event to happen," he said. "At this point, I don't want to disclose our plans."
The Comments AFTER the article though were scary enough to give me pause:
Can you believe this? It gets worse and worse after that. Aren't we all from somewhere else? Is everybody walking around with this prejudice in their hearts?? These comments hurt worse than the alleged race card that is being hinted at in the article. I don't know what more to say. It's just ....well ..awful.Oh Brother Commented:
ViVe Honduras..if your so viva honduras, why arent you
there trying to fix that country up instead of here siphoning money from the

we are just here, living our lives, we dont hyphenate ourselves, we are
american, not honduran-americans, jamaican-americans, trinidad-americans, we are americans and dont need no festivals to be proud of who we are..i dont go around
and say, hi im tom irish-american proud to meet ya..give me a break...And the
ONLY ONLY flag flying on my car and rearview mirror (unlike all you invaders) is
an AMERICAN flag...can you say the same thing, i doubt it.BAM from Pompano Beach:
Why dont they move it to Jamaica, or Trinidad, or the Bahamas. And everyone who attends, how about staying there! Take your crime and drugs with you. Dont worry ,soon, every commissioner will be from da islands mon, so you'll run everything, and dont have to use the racial copout/excuse.

Please help spread the word... As you can see below,Broward Carnival 2007 is at stake. The Carnival has been moved from venue to venue from year to year, and this year, at the last minute, the Carnival has once again been refused a venue.
A very negative article was published in the Miami Herald yesterday, which I am quite sure, did not help the situation. As Caribbean people, friends of Caribbean people, and people who enjoy the benefits of a cultural attraction that brings a huge influx of tourism into Broward County each year, we need to affix your name and residence to this email petition and forward it to all those who care to help us to get Broward County Officials to understand the value of this event.
Why should our businesses and residents in Broward and visitors to Broward have to worry about a potential loss in income over this period, simply due to a lack of cultural understanding? Remember, it is not only the vendors that have something at stake here, what about the thousands of revelers and supporters who have already bought their airline tickets to come down for the event and those who have already paid for their costumes?
Folks, in addition to calling those represented below, please call our Mayor Josephus Eggelletion at 954-357-7009, the City of Miramar 954-602-3114 and the City of Sunrise (Markham Park - where last year's Carnival was held) 954-746-3430. Flood the phone lines! United we stand, divided we fall.
Broward County Officials MUST do something to help us resolve this issue, and they will quite possibly only do something if they come to understand how well Broward Carnival is supported.
The City of has a reported Caribbean population of 26%. How can such a city so casually turn down a festival that represents such a large percentage of their constituents?
After you have affixed your name, please forward this message to your friends and family, and copy andy_ansola@yahoo.com so that he can continue to track our progress.
Thank you for your support

City rejects Caribbean carnival at regional park
Miramar leaders refused Wednesday to allow an international carnival to be held at the city's regional park Oct. 7.

A sharply divided Miramar City Commission shot down a request from organizers of a Caribbean carnival to hold the event in the city.
''The ultimate deciding factor is past performance,'' said Commissioner Yvonne Garth, who voted against letting the carnival be held in Miramar Regional Park Oct. 7.
Commissioner Troy Samuels and Mayor Lori Moseley joined Garth.
E-mails and letters about the group's past events at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale and Markham Park in Sunrise caused city leaders concern.
Representatives from Lockhart Stadium and Markham Park complained about trash left after the event. And Markham Park had about 25,000 attendees at Carnival last year, although the park can hold only about 15,000 people.
Miramar Regional Park also can accommodate only about 15,000 people.
LOTS OF ISSUES
Miramar staff had been working closely with organizers to come up with a plan to control crowds and traffic.
Miramar said organizers would have to have a $2-million insurance policy and 50 police officers to work the event. Also, the city required off-site ticket sales.
Commissioners Winston Barnes and Fitzroy Salesman voted for the five-year-old international event.
Organizers of the Broward Caribbean Carnival said the event is a major economic boost to Broward County and would help showcase Caribbean culture.
About 26 percent of Miramar's population is Caribbean in origin.
Salesman argued that since there were no incidents of crime or structural damage at previous carnivals, Miramar should give the event a chance.
''There was no human tragedy,'' Salesman said. ``What you are talking about is garbage that can be cleaned up.''
WORTH $60 MILLION?
But that was not enough to persuade the majority on the commission.
''I'm not sure they can handle it operationally,'' Samuels said.
Broward Caribbean Carnival Board member John Beckford said that the commissioners should have looked at the tourism dollars that the event would generate for the region.
Organizers estimated they pump $60 million into the local economy. Organizers say the international event drums up business for local eateries and hotels.
''We were all ready to make the accommodations that the city wanted,'' Beckford said.
Beckford said he has no idea where the Carnival will be held.
I'm trying very hard to not subscribe to the rumor mill, and feel free anybody to dispute what I say in this regard. But I have been told, by someone who I Believe is a reputable source , that as of yet Broward Carnival is yet to have confirmation of its Venue for the Carnival event planned.
I can just imagine how frustrating that is for the bands like Island Elite and Mascots that are registered for the carnival. Although My choice this year is to remain in Miami, it's hard to have this overshadow the spirit of Carnival , and I wish them the best.
